Sombra is a beautiful dark bay Standardbred Mare that came to me from British Columbia where in her previous life she was a track harness racer.
I put her under saddle and into a racking gait where she quickly reached speeds of 18 mph. The Standardbred is known for the stamina, kind and willing disposition, low heartrates, fabulous hooves and of course SPEED. Rich in the foundation history of the Tennessee Walking Horse beginnings it is a natural cross that I bring back to my breeding program.
Sombra is dual registered in Racking Horse Breeders Association as well as a foundation mare in the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association, and of course registered in The United States Trotting Association.
She is a great mare for driving as well as that adrenaline rush of speed. On the Applegate ranch she is now used strictly for her fabulous contribution as a brood mare.
Sombra gave birth to her first Apple-Gait'N foal on April 10, 2006....an outstanding stud colt, Shotgun's Ricochet. Chey is everything and more that I had dreamed of in crossing Sombra with my Tennessee Walker, Shotgun.
Sombra is bred this year to our new stallion, Intrigue's Firestorm, a Silver Dapple Bay for another awesome foal in 2007.
I am most pleased and proud to have this fine mare incorporated into the Apple-Gait'N family of broodmares.
